Employment Contract Advice
When employing an employee for your company for a period of more than one month, by law, it is essential to create an employee contract for your employee. It is not necessary for the employee contract to give a detailed description of the job; however it has to include the important terms and conditions of the employee’s job.

An employment contract is a contract signed by both the employee and employer stating that both abide to the stated terms and conditions of employment. An employment contract is created once the employee understands the job to be done, the pay related to the job, working hours, and other related matters and specifies when the employer is ready to hire the employee for the job.

Details in the employment contract

The details to be mentioned in the employment contract include the names of both employer and employee, the title and description of the job, the date the employee starts and the address of the workplace.

Additionally, the contract should include pay specifications, the number of hours the employee works each week, both holiday and sick entitlement and details of pension plan, if applicable.
If the employee will be working overseas, it is important to include the term of overseas contract as well as the currency in which the employee will be paid during their overseas tenure. Other details to be included in the employer contract are grievance agreements, redundancy, and termination of contract notice, disciplinary procedures the employee may have to go through and of course, the signatures of both the employer and employee.

Make sure you understand the contract before signing

It is important the employee understands the employment contract thoroughly prior to signing it. The employer will be the one responsible for drafting the contract, and thus should know all there is to know about it. The employee has to ensure that his or her interests are guarded in the contract, and be aware of the work, pay, obligations and entitlements they have in relation to the employment contract.

It is always better for employers to enlist the help of a competent legal service to draft and frame their employment contract. Though it is possible as an employer to frame your own contract, there is more professionalism, weight and value to an employment contract that has been created by a professional solicitor.
